Half and Half... - PM Ride added

So this morning I rode to work alone. Mike does sailing races on Wednesday and riding the bike does not get him from work to Annapolis soon enough to make the races. It is always better to ride with someone else, there are very few who people that I know that will dispute that. But, there are also some days that riding alone is okay too. When I ride alone, I can stop and call Bev to wake her up so she can go to work early to avoid all the Blue Angels and USNA graduation hub-bub at the Academy. I can also ride a little slower because the legs are just not feeling like turning this morning. I can also take a different route if I want to, and that is what I did this morning. It was half trail half road. I took the road route from Jumper's Hole Rd. It was a beautiful morning, and there was very little traffic. I am not saying that I couldn't do ALL of these things if I was riding with Mike, I am just saying that I didn't have to consider anybody else when making these choices. Finally, I also enjoy my Wednesday solo rides because it gives me a chance to gain a few miles on Mike for the month. I need to get a good lead because I will not be able to ride to Sweet Sue's on Memorial Day, which will be about 100 miles of riding for Mike. I an confident that we will both have over 700 miles for the month of May. Looking at my training log, and how many days I didn't ride, I should have had 800 or more miles. Oh well, there is always June.

Stats for this morning:

Uneventful ride home. Very hot and humid.

  1. "... gain a few miles on Mike..." I thought you stopped biking intentionally last week to keep it close!

  2. It will be close. You still have Sweet Sue's ride that I won't have. That's 100 + miles.

  3. Either Mike needs a (better) camera or you don't need the Sweet Sue's run, right?
I hope you are not riding in this extreme heat, catch a heart attack you will....
I know you...you will make up those miles for sure!

  6. A trip to Sweet Sue's by bike is an 8000 - 10000 calorie day on a bicycle depending on the route taken. The SPP bylaws specifically state that a biker is entitled to eat anything s/he wants if the ride will exceed 7500 calories expended in a single day.

  7. AMEN Brother Mike. You preach it, I'll turn the pages. And who am I to disobey the SPP bylaws? I am not sure the eclair that Shane got was IAW the bylaws though. That thing was HUGE!

  8. Let it go Mom. The boyish figure is a thing of the past. Sorry.

  9. Ok, I give up. Two against one isn't fair!!
I do agree with Mike tho....you burn more calories, actually more than I do, so who am I to judge right? Hopefully more than you take in. Besides, you have had a bit of a problem finding the right "food" combination to keep you going and I guess if Sweet Sue's helps that, go for it. :)
Guess I needed that!!!! Just don't forget the "jellybeans".
I do not think the eclair will pass tho. Keep up the good work.
    Love ya,

  10. I'm glad you gave up. I didn't want to have to turn this over to Rev. Dave of the SPP to lecture you on the finer points of calorie intake while on a 200k. (You thought Mike and I were bad.) I will thank Mike for having my back.

  11. I have to put my two cents in and tell you that I think you are an inspiration with your biking and weight loss. And Mike that goes for you too. The two of you are awesome and I still can't get over the fact that you ride such distances on a regular basis. Keep it up and continue to be healthy and happy. Do you know who this is?
